Sharon, co-founder of The Checkout Chicks, enjoying a recent day with her daughter.
The marvels of the Twittersphere never get old to me. Since joining Twitter back in 2007 at the behest of my friend Chuck the product guru, it's been mind-boggling to me, watching the way Twitter has evolved from just a few startup junkies and marketing experts to the cultural frenzy that it is today. Practically each hour I'm exposed to new things and new people that I can't believe I ever lived before without knowing. And people and other bloggers are connecting with me and Shoestring in meaningful ways that no amount of mutual commenting in the blogosphere before achieved.
One such connection was with Sharon from Richmond, Virginia, co-founder of The Checkout Chicks, a blog started by two moms looking to stretch their budgets to the max. By combining sale prices with coupons and then stockpiling, they're able to save 50% or more on their weekly grocery bills, and share their tips with other bargainistas everywhere on their daily blog.
Sharon is in the middle of packing up for a move and was looking for like-minded writers to guest blog on Checkout Chicks. Using the tips Meghan and I prepared for our New York Post interview last week, we were able to quickly whip up a post on our 3 Steps to Living The Good Life on a Shoestring, exposing our audiences to each other and getting more free, budget-friendly advice out there in additionally meaningful ways. Another fabulous example of social networking and bartering at work for the greater good!
