Though Ginger and I both grew up in the birthplace of Patriotism, his childhood was spent in this 19th century Mansard Victorian, complete with barn, about a hundred yards from the Revolutionary battlegreen, while mine was spent in a 1970s new-construction townhouse. (Wah-wah.) It's no secret I love yard sales and antiques, and I felt denied the thrill of discovering buried treasure by spending my formative years in a home bereft of its own history yet full of orange and brown and yellow linoleum. (OK, maybe just the kitchen...) Every time I go to visit my (soon-to-be) mother-in-law, I walk away with some amazing artifact of indeterminable origin from either the basement or the barn, which I *love* and fills this need to act out my own personal Antiques Roadshow. It's like Christmas and my birthday wrapped into one.
The problem is, I'm no expert on art or antiques, so I've decided to try to collect these weekly delights (from family treasures to Goodwill and yard sale scores) into regular blog posts, and then, well, let you "talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic." In honor of Wine Riot this weekend, let's start with this one:
How old is this bottle of benedictine and brandy? What's its story? Is it worth anything? And, most importantly, should we drink it? Here are a few more photos for your verdict-making pleasure...
